EP&O and Tech Levy – Vote YES on Feb. 14
In November, the BISD Board of Directors unanimously approved two resolutions to put levy renewals on the February 14 ballot.
The first is the renewal of the EP&O (educational programs & operations) levy, which provides 22% of Bainbridge Island School District’s operating budget. Because the state of Washington doesn’t fully fund K-12 education, BISD relies on local taxpayer support for basic education needs. Funds from the EP&O levy touch all areas of BISD programming, including teacher pay, curriculum, programs, utilities such as power and water, and extracurricular opportunities for students.
The second is a renewal of the Tech Levy, which is the only consistent, dedicated funding source for technology in the Bainbridge Island School District, providing technology for classroom learning, infrastructure and communications.
It is critical for our students’ education to renew these levies. Imagine if the school district lost nearly one-quarter of its operating budget. It’s also important to understand that these are not new sources of funding, but renewals of levies already in place. Voting for these two levy renewals is of critical importance to maintaining the high quality of education we value on Bainbridge. Let’s show our schools and staff some love by voting YES on February 14!
If you aren’t yet registered to vote, January 16, 2017, is the deadline for mail and online new voter registrations. Make sure your voice is heard on these critical ballot measures. Register to vote now at Kitsap Gov.
